Under the Affordable Care Act, health insurance issuers and self-insured plan sponsors are required to pay the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute fees (PCORI fees). This fee was implemented in order to fund comparative effectiveness research.
The IRS recently published a notice that provides the adjusted PCORI fee amount for plan years ending on or after Oct. 1, 2014, and before Oct. 1, 2015.
For plan years ending on or after Oct. 1, 2014, and before Oct. 1, 2015, the PCORI fee amount is $2.08 multiplied by the average number of lives covered under the plan.
Previously, the fee was $1 for plan years ending before Oct. 1, 2013 and $2 for plan years ending on or after Oct. 1, 2013, and before Oct. 1, 2014.
