On November 14th, 2016, an updated version of Form I-9: Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9 Form) was released. Employers will be allowed to continue using the current form (which was most recently revised in 2013) until January 21, 2017. Employers are thus expected to use the revised form exclusively by January 22, 2017.
Form Changes and Updates
The updated form includes changes that are designed to make using both the paper and electronic versions of the form more intuitive and easier to use. If your company is using the electronic version of the form, here are a few notable additions:
- Drop-down menus
- Calendars for filling in dates
- On-screen instructions for each field
- Easy access to the full set of instructions
- An option to clear the entire form and start over
Additional Guidance and Support
As a reminder, under federal law, every employer that recruits, refers for a fee, or hires an individual for employment in the United States must complete an I-9 Form.
